To celebrate International Women's day, we caught up with a number of Women within Digme....
Meet Jan, our Management Accountant...
1: Tell us a bit more about your role at Digme
My role is to process all costs the company incurs coming from suppliers, contractors including instructors, payroll, credit card expenses and assisting the Finance Director to produce Management accounts every month as well as reconciling the accounts. I am also assisting with all queries related to payments to suppliers, instructors and employees.
2: What gives you the most job satisfaction?
I am satsified when I know data processed in the systems is accurate and up to date. I also enjoy my job when I am trusted to do it well and when I can be reliable. This encourages me to perform even better.
3: What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
The moment I started in one previous Financial controller role and just after 2 months in the job when my manager at the time told me this was the first time he could finally relax. I was so proud of what I went through in my career to reach that point and reflect on my achievements.
4: What were your ambitions growing up and did you see any barriers of getting where you wanted to be?
My ambition when I started working in Accounting is to pass at least one of the Chartered Accounting exam which I did despite language barriers and the challenge I had working 12 hrs a day and having to find time to study.
My ambition growing up was always being an independent woman and having the freedom to make the right choices to live my life to the full. This has been well achieved
5: What has been your experience of living through the pandemic?
This experience allowed me to reflect on my priorities in life and what job I really wanted to do. This is the reason I looked for a new job and found Digme and 2 incredible Managers Andy and Dave. it also allowed me to have a bit of a breather while I was part furloughed for 3 months after having worked the previous 20 years at an intense pace being a financial controller in Hotels.
6: Our workforce has sadly reduced due to the pandemic. Within your role, talk us through some of the challenges you have faced.
It was a stressful time as we have sadly lost a number of wonderful staff. I am now feeling grateful for what we do have and my amazing, passionate colleagues!
7: Describe what its like working for Digme in 3 words.
Enjoyable, interesting, motivating
