The Fuerza of Five
Digme / Hostal De La Gavina, Costa Brava with Elissia Roberts & Fay Sullivan
2nd – 6th October 2023

“Yoga allows you to rediscover a sense of wholeness in your life, where you do not feel like you are constantly trying to fit broken pieces together.” B.K.S Iyengar

“Fuerza” = is Spanish and translates to “force”. The ‘force’ or ‘power’ of five. This retreat will run for four nights and five days. Each day we will be exploring a different theme, so that by the end of the retreat, you feel more connected to yourself. By getting out of your everyday routine, delving into a deeper practice and immersing yourself in nature, you can expect to return home feeling recharged and ready to share your light with those around you. There is beautiful power in surrendering and allowing our minds and bodies to relax and release. Through this, we can find true restoration and perhaps spark or re-spark a deeper connection to ourselves, our community and the world around us. Reflection allows us to explore the deepest parts of ourselves, uncover truths and intentions that we want to invite more of into our lives on a regular basis and to notice what could be holding us back. On this retreat, we will offer you the power of five...

Relax - Release - Restore - Reconnect - Reflect

THE INSTRUCTORS

Elissia Roberts

Elissia first started practising yoga at the age of 13; one of her Mum’s best friends was a primary teacher by day and an Iyengar instructor by sunset. She didn’t really understand at that point how influential yoga would be in her life, but she knew it felt amazing for her body and even more amazing for her mind. When Elissia was 19, she travelled to India and visited Rishikesh, the magical spiritual town and the birthplace of Yoga. It was there when she was practising in an Ashram, amongst lots of like-minded travellers from all over the world, many of whom were completing their teacher trainings, that she thought “I want yoga to be a part of my life forever”. She was still towards the beginning of her journey at that point, but she knew from that moment, that she would complete a teacher training one day and that sharing this wonderful practice with many others would be a dream come true...

Since then, Elissia has studied with Yoga West, learning from some of the most well-respected teachers in London, such as, Jeff Phenix, Zeena Kalisperides, Christian Coelho, Pete Cherry and Cal Wansborough. She later went on to study Yin yoga with Norman Blair. She now continues her studies by attending retreats and workshops across the UK and is planning her 300hr TT very soon. Elissia is Head of Yoga at Digme Fitness and also spends her time teaching full-time, across studios, with 1-1s and corporate clients in and around London.

Yoga has changed everything for Elissia...her mindset, her ego, her compassion and empathy, her understanding of people and the world, and her ability to sit with and experience all feelings (good, bad and ugly), while developing the power to let go of things that no longer serve her. For Elissia, yoga is so much more than the poses (asanas) that we hold for seconds or minutes; it’s a complete lifestyle change, one that lasts forever.

“Getting to my mat, allows me to experience my true inner being, to strip back my ego, embrace Moksha (liberation), learn about the real me and to be completely honest with myself, to practice gratitude and complete contentment (Santosha), Ahimsa (non-violence), and self-love. I always roll up my mat after practice, feeling calmer, more in tune with how I’m really feeling and with more love and light in my heart for myself and all other beings. I then take this feeling with me into the rest of my day.”

Elissia sees herself as a student of yoga and a tool for others to teach themselves. She believes we only truly learn through our own practice and experiences; she offers her students plenty of room for exploration and to intuitively listen to their bodies. As much as she loves a fiery, challenging heat-building practice, she also sees life-changing value in the soothing, healing and meditative qualities of a Yin practice and loves to find the balance between the two. Therefore, you can expect to feel well-balanced after leaving her sessions. Elissia will make her students feel supported, encouraged and believed in while creating a safe, warm, open and creative space for them to lose and find themselves in. She is a strong believer that yoga is for everyone.

Fay Sullivan

Fay will be assisting Elissia on the retreat and leading some of the evening Yin sessions. Fay's calming nature, innate kindness and positive energy will guide you through practices that develop strength and flexibility whilst cultivating a calm and steady mind. Principled by ancient practices of yoga and guided by the best alignment for your body, her encouragement teaches you to find joy in the journey. Fay came to yoga through her curiosity about human health and wellbeing. As an Interior Designer, she is fascinated by the impact of the environment on our wellbeing and works closely with people to understand their lifestyles to create places unique to them. Having lived and worked in Hong Kong for almost a decade, Fay returned to the UK to reconnect with her roots. Inspired by the natural world, her quest to reconnect us to our inner landscape continues.

Designing places people feel connected to and at home in. Using yoga as a tool to connect to ourselves so we can better connect with others and our surroundings. Fay has 300hrs of YTT under her belt, and 100 of those are Yin-focused. She completed Cal Wansborough's Yin teacher training and fell even more in love with the practice and the wonderful possibilities Yin can bring into your life. You'll leave her sessions with your soul nurtured and your heart full. She will help you find tranquil moments in a busy world that will make you want to return to the mat for yourself, again and again and again...
